Best cure in sickness – Quran and Ahle Bait (a.s.)

Reading Time: 2 minutes

The Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.) advised the Muslim nation to hold fast to the Quran and Ahle Bait (a.s.) in the famous report of Hadith al-Saqalain (Two Weighty Things).

While there are many similarities between the two weighty things in relation to guidance and infallibility, there is another area where they can offer much benefit to the Muslims i.e. as a cure in sickness.

As the following reports recommend, in times of distress, disease and difficulties, turning to the Noble Quran and infallible Ahle Bait (a.s.) is the best cure.

Holy Quran is a cure

The Messenger of Allah (s.a.w.a.) informed:
The Quran is a clear light, a strong rope, of high status, greatest intercessor, a great excellence and a big success. One who seeks light from it, it will illuminate him with its light and those who attach their matters with it, it will keep them safe; to those who hold it tight, it will give deliverance. One who does not keep himself aside from Allah’s commands, Allah will raise his status and those who seek cure through it, Allah will cure them.

Ahle Bait (a.s.) are a safeguard

Ameerul Momineen, Ali Ibn Abi Talib (a.s.) said:
‪‪Remembering us – Ahle Bait (a.s.) – is a cure from extreme fever and sicknesses and whisperings of doubt and loving us is satisfaction of the Lord, Blessed and High be He.‪

  • Wasail al-Shia v 16 p 368
  • Khesal v 2 p 625 chap of 400
  • Behar al-Anwar v 2 p 145, v 10 p 104, v 26 p 227, v 59 p 97

Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.) informed:
There is no greater cure next to the Quran than remembering us – the Ahle Bait (a.s.) and invoking blessings on us (salawaat). Surely Allah, the Almighty, has made mention of Ahle Bait (a.s.) as cure for (what is in) the chest and has made the act of invoking blessings on us as elimination of burdens and sins and as cleansing of defects and multiplication of good deeds.

Anyone who believes otherwise is victim of Satan’s whispering.

  • Tafseer of Imam Hasan Askari (a.s.) under Surah Baqarah (2): 172-173
  • Behar al-Anwar v 26 p 233
  • Mustadrak al-Wasail v 12 p 392

Clearly, the Quran and Ahle Bait (a.s.) not only have a spiritual side in terms of guiding the nation, they also hold the key in curing the people in times of disease, distress and difficulties.
